Select Board addresses road repairs, culvert replacement and Route 32 speed concerns

The Road Commissioner updated the Select Board on multiple maintenance items on Aug. 12. He said he will mark trees on Sennett Road for removal and will assess a recent report of a downed tree on North Mountain Road. The commissioner identified a large culvert at Footloose Lane on Egypt Road that needs replacement; Select Board member Robert Clark Jr. authorized the work to proceed.
The board reviewed an estimate from Tim Purington for blasting along Egypt Road and considered the price reasonable, noting the estimate does not include a small additional ditching item that will need to be added. The Road Commissioner was authorized to contact Tim Purington to set up work dates.
North Mountain Road mailbox access was restored after the commissioner filled in dirt around the mailbox so the U.S. Postal Service can deliver mail. Goose Hill Road ditching was hot-topped. The board also accepted an estimate from Dylan Peaslee to haul winter salt at $92 per ton for five loads (motion passed 2-0). Lynne will contact Jimmy to repair the light in the salt shed before Sept. 1 so deliveries can begin on schedule.
On safety, the board discussed a resident complaint about speeding on Route 32 by the Jefferson General Market and Jefferson Scoop. The minutes note a letter was sent to the state DOT in Aug. 2022 requesting a speed review that received no response; Lynne will follow up with DOT.
