Commission hears marker, bridge and museum updates; memorial vandalism noted
Summary

At the April 9 meeting the Williamson County Historical Commission reviewed an extensive markers report, discussed preservation options for a 1930 bridge and noted instances of vandalism at local memorials.
Kevin West presented a marker-status update listing many projects in varying stages: new and replacement markers for Jarrell ISD Building, John McQueen Taylor, Nuesser/Naizerville, Barbette, Railroad Produce Depot, Shiloh Black Cemetery, Perry Cemetery, Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Tabernacle, Good Hope Baptist Cemetery, Salyer Cemetery, Burial Ground at Granger Lake, Float the River Brewing (closed), and Coupland Dancehall. Several entries were marked as "proof approved," "inscription approved" or "closed project," and some required narrative work or THC (Texas Historical Commission) final approval.
The Historical Bridges discussion noted County Road 434’s 1930 bridge lacked an organization willing to relocate it; the commission supported including the bridge in a roadside park and suggested placing a historical marker at the site.
The monuments report referenced contentious activity at the Confederate monument on Jan. 19 and vandalism to an IOOF plot and UDC cross at Emzee Taylor on Good Friday, including removed flags. The minutes do not attribute the vandalism report to a named speaker.
The commission also heard museum updates: Williamson Museum listed upcoming public events (a Red Poppy brunch April 25 and Pioneer Days April 30–May 1), and Moody Museum announced an April 25 benefit and a June 6 unveiling of a life-size bronze statue of Dan Moody by local artist Joe Kenney; the Moody Museum requested a TXDOT brown sign for the site.
Many marker projects included deadlines for Texas Historical Commission submission and next-step tasks; the minutes list specific marker statuses but do not include final installation dates for all items.
