Crockett's Police Chief told the City Council that investigators have identified three suspects believed responsible for a recent weekend shooting and work is ongoing to obtain arrest paperwork and finalize investigative details. The Chief gave monthly statistics for May: 16 officers on staff; the department responded to 413 calls, investigated 11 traffic accidents, made 53 arrests, issued 262 traffic citations, completed 69 reports and responded to 25 alarm calls. On the shooting, the Chief said the suspects appear to be from outside the city and not connected to local residents; investigators spent substantial time following leads in neighboring counties.
Council members thanked the department for its response and for working with the organizers of a large community event run by Mr. McCull. Several council members described the gathering as planned and youth‑focused but noted that it drew a mixed crowd and an estimated peak attendance of about 2,000 people, which raised concerns about exits and crowd flow.
Members discussed improving planning and safety for future events, including coordination with event organizers and officers. The Chief said the department and event organizers have been communicating about possible improvements and that the department will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
The council did not take formal policy action on the shooting during the meeting; the Chief said arrests and documentation were pending and that the department would release additional information when appropriate.
