Keiser approves park-grant resolution, joins county hazard plan and records DOJ grant extensions
Summary

Mayor Rick Creecy paused the council meeting at 6:50 p.m. to convene a public meeting about applying for a $250,000 Great Strides/Trails for Life grant to construct a 50-by-250-foot parking area at the city park and provide 20 benches. After council discussion on location and parameters, the public input was described as positive.
Councilmember Donna Bell moved, and Councilmember Joey Jackson seconded, adoption of Resolution 2024-09 to support the grant application; the council and citizens in attendance approved the resolution. The council also adopted Resolution 2024-10 to join the Mississippi County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan; Jackson moved and Bell seconded and the resolution passed unanimously.
Council members noted the Department of Justice Community Policing grant had been extended through March 31, 2025, because the city had recently lost its chief and a full-time officer. Council also indicated a request for an extension for a separate DOJ full-time officer grant will be filed. City staff reported several grant submissions: a $40,700 Public Safety Equipment Grant (100%) for a police truck, a $2,500 Arkansas Community Foundation Giving Tree grant (100%) for park trees and landscaping, and a $16,000 Rural Community Grant (50/50) to renovate park bathrooms.
Council recorded these grant-related actions and will follow through on required application and reporting steps.
