Council OKs one-year lease for Skydive Suffolk at Executive Airport

Suffolk City Council voted 7–0 on June 17 to authorize the city manager to enter a one-year lease (May 1, 2026–April 30, 2027) with Skydive Suffolk Training Center LLC for Hangar 9 and roughly 1.75 acres at the Suffolk Executive Airport.
Janet Days, director of economic development, said the city advertised the tenancy and Skydive Suffolk was the sole respondent, proposing monthly rent of $2,350 with a required security deposit of one month’s rent. The premises were described as approximately 8,000 square feet of hangar space (6,400 ft hangar space plus 1,600 ft office/lean-to).
Owners and operators addressed council during the public hearing. Laura Manthy, identified as Skydive Suffolk owner, said the operation has completed more than 75,000 skydives in the past five years, donated over $50,000 in goods and services to the region, and is developing training and veteran-focused programs including FAA parachute rigger training.
Council members praised the outreach and approved the ordinance by voice and roll-call as presented.
