Garden Grove board and community celebrate bus drivers’ rodeo wins

Garden Grove Unified School District leaders and community members celebrated the district’s school bus drivers after teams and individual drivers placed at recent local and statewide bus rodeos.
A presenter detailed the results, saying the local Orange County chapter placed Eduardo first, Efren third and Gabby DeAngelo fifth, and that a Kern County rodeo team of Jose, David and Kevin placed third. "The Garden Grove Unified School District has the best school bus rodeo drivers hands down," the presenter said, drawing applause.
Trustees and staff told the drivers they valued the routine safety work required of the job — checking emergency lights, stop-sign mechanisms and doors — and praised drivers for getting students to and from school safely every day. One trustee described ride-alongs and called the drivers "champions every single day."
The recognition included photographs with the award winners and an invitation for staff and family members to join the celebration. The board noted the drivers’ long record of competition success and the role such events play in showcasing safety and technical skills.
The meeting moved on after the photos; the district did not take separate policy action related to the rodeo recognition during the session.
