Mayor Edwin Okamura read a proclamation at the start of the March 4, 2025 Rio Vista City Council meeting declaring March as Red Cross Month and recognizing the humanitarian work of volunteers and donors. Vincent Valenzuela, Executive Director of the American Red Cross North Bay Chapter, joined the meeting remotely to accept the proclamation.
Valenzuela described the chapter’s coverage (Solano, Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties) and said the organization relies on volunteers for most of its operations. He highlighted operational statistics and a recent blood supply shortfall: "12,012 uncollected blood and platelet donations in January," he said, and urged healthy residents to donate. Valenzuela also described local collaborations with the Rio Vista Fire Department on smoke‑alarm installation and disaster preparedness outreach.
The council thanked Valenzuela for the chapter’s service and proclaimed March 2025 Red Cross Month in Rio Vista. Residents were encouraged to visit redcross.org for local opportunities to donate blood or volunteer.
