Catskill board adopts 5% increases to water and sewer rates, effective July 1

The Village of Catskill Board of Trustees voted unanimously on June 25, 2025, to raise both water and sewer rates by 5%, with the changes taking effect July 1, 2025.

Board documents and the resolutions presented at the meeting cite sharply higher costs for essential treatment chemicals, ongoing sewer upgrades along Main Street to accommodate new connections, and construction of a settling pond at the water treatment plant as the primary reasons for the adjustments. The resolutions are titled Resolution No. 14 of 2025 (water) and Resolution No. 15 of 2025 (sewer) and state the increases apply to all users.

Members of the public raised questions during the hearing before the vote. Joe Izzo asked about whether the Village would use Water Fund balance to offset rate increases; Elliott Matos asked how the 5% increase would be split between water and sewer charges; and Jared Giordano objected to Town residents’ bills increasing by 5%. The Board held a public hearing, heard the comments and then proceeded to adopt the resolutions.

The water resolution notes near-doubling of treatment chemical costs and references planned infrastructure work that will “facilitate additional connections” including a recently approved hotel. The sewer resolution cites higher chemical costs, increased salaries for operations staff, and necessary upgrades to comply with environmental requirements and to serve new development.

Clerk Anna Signoretti certified the resolutions as unanimously adopted by the Village Board on June 25. The effective date listed in both resolutions is July 1, 2025.
