The Select Board accepted Prices Right Tree Removal’s low bid to remove hazardous and dead trees at the cemetery and road locations, awarding the work at the May 26 meeting.
The board reviewed three proposals: Prices Right offered a $14,000 total (cemetery $2,000; Emery Corner Road $2,000; Lombard Hill $10,000); Trips Tree Service quoted $17,200 total; Southern Maine Tree quoted $17,000 total. After confirming the bidders had inspected marked trees and would carry liability insurance, a motion to accept Prices Right’s bid was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Officials clarified the contractor will chip appropriate material and town volunteer Rick Richardson agreed to remove large trunks so sites would be clear after work. Board members discussed whether large crane jobs should be handled through sealed bids in the future; for this package the board did not require sealed bids because of the specialized nature of the work and limited market of crane-equipped firms.
Board staff will schedule the work and coordinate on timing and liability documentation with the contractor before work begins.
