On April 27 the Board of Selectmen approved a contract to reopen and fertilize the municipal ball fields after staff received an irrigation and maintenance proposal. The contract presented to the board listed a grand total near $55,057.12 for work including irrigation start‑up and phased fertilizer applications; the vendor offered a 20% discount for youth sports fields.
A motion to proceed with the contract was made and seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote. Members said the fields are in rough shape and that fertilizer and irrigation start‑up were overdue after limited maintenance the prior year.
Why it matters: restarting irrigation and applying fertilizer affects recreation programs, practice and game quality for youth sports and helps ensure the town’s assets are maintained. The board chair said he will sign the contract to finalize the agreement.
