Water-district official says downtown main nearly connected; chlorination, testing to follow

Aaron Carroll, speaking for the Tilton Water District, updated the Select Board on the downtown water-main project at the May 26 meeting.
Carroll said the sewers and water main are installed up to Watson Hill Road but crews encountered ledge in that section. “We should be getting through that in the next few days,” Carroll said, adding the contractor hopes to complete the connection by the end of the week so the district can chlorinate and test the main and then switch customers back to the new section.
Carroll also reported coordination with state paving crews: Main Street and Route 11 paving work required the town and state to inspect manholes and gate boxes. Town staff marked manholes that can remain and identified others that must be raised with risers; Carroll said risers and gate-box risers are available and work will proceed to match the state paving schedule.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the schedule and construction impacts; Carroll said testing and chlorination would occur once the connection is complete and that the goal remains to minimize customer interruptions. No formal action or vote was required; the update was informational and staff will return with additional status reports if the schedule changes.
