Parks & Recreation says new multiuse facility expected in 2–3 years; Plaza on 5th faces ~$40,000 ERV repair that may trigger special assessment

Sherri Proud, speaking for Coralville Parks & Recreation, told the Coralville Arts Commission on Feb. 3 that the department is working on its budget and "trying to position ourselves for opening the new facility in 2–3 years."

Proud said staff are seeking a new food proprietor for the municipal golf course and that the Plaza on 5th Board is addressing two infrastructure items: a lock and security system and problems with the roof ERV that runs the building’s air conditioning. "That will be about a $40k fix, and might require a special assessment," she said. The department is also addressing ongoing humidity issues in the building and will bring design engineers on board to help identify the cause.

The estimate for the ERV repair is a potential near-term capital expense that could require assessing property owners or other funding changes if the Plaza board determines a special assessment is necessary. The commission recorded no formal vote on funding at the meeting; the report was presented as an update during regular reports.
