Strasburg council hears updates on sidewalks, staffing and 7th Street NW completion

Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry and other officials provided routine operations and development updates at the Strasburg Village Council meeting on July 22.
Rosenberry said framing for the 4th Street sidewalk is complete and concrete was expected the following Tuesday, weather permitting. Levco completed the 'shark teeth' pavement markings on Wooster Avenue; pedestrian crossing and 'crossing ahead' signs remain to be installed at an estimated cost of $2,500–$3,000. Curb installation at 740 Oak Avenue is complete and the Street Department is prepping for paving and pothole patching. Rosenberry reported the school will fund half the cost of a sidewalk along the bus garage, and that tornado sirens are expected to be installed in August.
On personnel, Rosenberry said Street Department employee Tyler Triplett submitted a three‑week notice. He also reported that Randy Troyer resigned and that Lisa Edie will replace him. The village received 12 applications for the fire chief position; five interviews have been completed and two additional interviews are scheduled. Rosenberry said ProVia will be on two service days in August to paint park pavilions and the Village Hall shed.
Police Corporal Connor Bailey reported 218 calls in June and said the department had received two applications for crossing guard positions and expected a third; Legal Counsel Terry Seeberger will prepare a resolution to hire crossing guards for the next meeting. Zoning Inspector Ted Foster reported two fence permits issued and that the Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance for Robert Miller at 192 7th Street NW; Foster added that letters will be mailed to two property owners about property cleanup.
Resident Lewis Dreher addressed council about 7th Street NW. Mayor Bruce Metzger and Rosenberry told Dreher they had spoken with Mark Malcuit; Malcuit will install taps at the four remaining lots before completing the street. Metzger and Rosenberry said they will follow up because laterals were not present and Rosenberry will place drawings in his office for public review. Jeff Smith said that after completion of Williams Village a farm on 6th Street is planned to be annexed and connected to water and sewer.
Councilmember Martin Zehnder suggested the Street & Alley Committee contact ODOT for help improving the Wooster Avenue crosswalk near the park entrance; Metzger noted prior measures (extra signs, shark teeth) and said the village will lower strobe lights and install additional signage.
Mayor Metzger also relayed a resident’s praise for Street Superintendent Matt Miller and thanked David Dennison for donating labor to power‑wash and sanitize park pavilions and picnic tables ahead of the upcoming festival; Metzger suggested not charging Dennison for bulk water used for park maintenance. Metzger added that he and other officials escorted two individuals sleeping in the park from the premises.
