Strasburg council approves interim fire pay increases and appoints part‑time park worker

Resolution 2024-14, authorizing interim pay increases for certain fire department employees, was read by title, the council suspended the mandatory three readings and approved the measure on a unanimous roll-call vote (motion to suspend and approve moved by Jeff Smith and seconded by Wes Hostetler). The resolution takes effect immediately.
Mayor Bruce Metzger also reported that Assistant Fire Chief Steven Joki will coordinate a related grant project to install a vehicle exhaust removal system in the firehouse apparatus bays; Metzger said the grant is for $90,000 with an approximate village contribution of $6,000.
Council then gave first reading and immediate approval to Resolution 2024-15, which authorizes the appointment of a new part‑time park employee. Councilmember Kathy Burrier moved the suspension of the three-reading rule and the appointment was approved unanimously (motion by Burrier, second by Hostetler). The resolution takes effect immediately.
Why it matters: the pay adjustment is intended to address firefighter compensation while the grant for an exhaust system would reduce diesel exhaust exposure for firefighters; the park hire adds staff capacity for maintenance and upcoming events.
The council approved both measures by roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
