AGNC/NCI representative says $6 million regional energy-hub application submitted, warns of proposed state emissions push

A regional economic-development representative briefed the Rangely Town Council on federal and state funding developments and on a multi-state energy project during the April 8 meeting.
Matt, speaking for AGNC and NCI, said an application for a $6 million five-state regional energy hub was submitted earlier in the year but that some federal funding streams (identified in the meeting as IIGJ and IRA programs) remain frozen. "I spent my holiday putting together an application for a $6 million grant to develop a five-state regional energy hub," he said, and added that because federal funding was frozen they were looking to private partners to stand up the project.
Matt also described a proposed late piece of state legislation he said would accelerate emission-reduction deadlines (as presented in his remarks, targets described included 90% by 2030, 95% by 2035 and 100% by 2040). He and regional partners had drafted a letter opposing the late introduction and urging greater regional input; Matt said county commissioners, utilities and labor unions were among signatories pushing back on the schedule and its potential to rule out options such as nuclear or natural gas under the draft language.
Council members thanked the presenter and encouraged continued coordination; no formal council action was taken on the grant or on the state policy questions at the meeting. Matt invited council members to share project wish lists to help match local priorities with available funding opportunities and noted upcoming AGNC mini-grant application windows.
