Rangely council pledges $3,500 to CNCC aviation team headed to nationals

The Rangely Town Council voted to contribute $3,500 from the town’s public-giving account to support the Colorado Northwestern Community College aviation team’s trip to a national competition.
Student John Roberts, a co-captain, told the council the team has raised about $33,000 and needs roughly $40,000 to cover travel and related costs for a two-week national competition in Wisconsin. Nathan Hard, the aviation program director, said the total trip cost is about $40,000 and described fundraising activities including donut sales, car washes and a cornhole tournament. "It's incredibly expensive because it's really far and we're going to be gone for a grand total of about 14 days," he said.
Council members said the town had budgeted $6,000 in the public-giving fund and moved to allocate $3,500 to the team; the motion carried. Council members encouraged continued fundraising and offered to help secure additional private donations. The students said they plan to use the town seal on apparel as a sponsorship-level reward and will continue upcoming fundraisers.
What’s next: the contribution will be drawn from the public-giving account and the team will continue to fundraise to close the remaining gap should it persist; regionals will be hosted in Rangely next year.
