Moon Lake Electric representative briefs council on regional power questions, offers to check nuclear feasibility

Dean Sers, legal and administrative adviser for Moon Lake Electric Association, addressed the Rangely Town Council during public comment and offered to relay community questions to his cooperative.
Sers said Moon Lake's wholesale provider is Deseret Generation & Transmission and that he could ask Deseret about the feasibility of small nuclear generation connecting into the local distribution system. He cautioned he had no firm answers and said any feasibility work would require follow-up with Deseret.
Council members and Sers discussed the Deseret coal-fired plant and ongoing efforts to install selective catalytic reduction (SCR) controls; Sers said those controls would likely extend the plant's operating life to about 2035, subject to permitting. He also noted regional dialogue in Utah about nuclear generation and storage ideas but said he was not aware of any firm proposals affecting Colorado.
Sers described Moon Lake as a member-owned cooperative emphasizing "accountability, transparency, reliability and safety" and said the cooperative wants to stay engaged with community councils. He offered to reach out to Deseret and report back on any feasibility findings.
