Rangely council approves preliminary Dec. 2024 financials, clears special-event permit and tables sewage-discharge resolution

The Rangely Town Council on Jan. 28 approved a preliminary (unaudited) December 2024 financial summary and granted a special-event permit for the Rangely Chamber of Commerce Crab Crack, while tabling a resolution concerning the sewage treatment plant’s discharge and water-rights issues until its Feb. 11 meeting.

Councilor Kyle moved to approve the preliminary December 2024 financial summary, citing a capital transfer to the water fund for ongoing projects; the motion was seconded by Robbie and carried on a voice vote. Town staff said the figures are unaudited and that wastewater totals reflected completion of a half-turn project. The manager characterized the report as preliminary and said figures may be adjusted after audit.

Council also approved a special-event permit for the Chamber’s Crab Crack, set for Feb. 22, 2025, in the Colorado Room at CNCC. Organizers described the event schedule as a cocktail hour followed by awards and an auction; the town said event hours would be 5 p.m. to about 10 p.m. A motion to approve the permit was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.

On a separate item, the council voted to table a resolution addressing discharge from the Rangely sewage treatment plant and associated water-rights matters until the Feb. 11 meeting. Councilor Andy moved to table the item and asked that council members submit written questions to staff (Lisa) so responses would be part of the public record. The motion to table passed on a voice vote.

Informational items included reminders about the Crab Crack, appreciation letters to police personnel and the K9 unit, and committee updates such as Western Rio Blanco 911 meeting attendance. The council adjourned at 7:41 p.m.

What’s next: The sewage-treatment-plant resolution is scheduled for Feb. 11; council requested written questions for staff in advance.
