Boxborough's Design Review Board discussed public-engagement options on June 11 for updated town-center design guidance and agreed to pursue a visual-preference survey approach paired with a working session of board members to prepare materials. Staff recommended three alternatives: a visual-preference survey with an information session, multiple focused-group sessions, or one larger public forum; staff recommended the visual survey as the best summer approach to gather broad input and follow up with an in-person session.
Board members emphasized the value of an initial working session to set a starting point before public outreach. "I might also say that we have like a we set up a working session of board members to kind of get a start point that we're happy to present," one member said. Staff (Alec) said he will begin preparing the visual-preference survey and coordinate a July working session and outreach for an August or early September public information event. The board asked staff to update imagery in the current guidelines as a starting point and to coordinate member availability to maximize participation.
