Valparaiso committees report summer library use, park fundraising plans and pet‑park preparations

Several community service items were reported at the July 8 meeting. Marie Fiala presented the library report: 223 patrons used the library last month, with 189 physical checkouts and 96 digital checkouts; 47 children are enrolled in the summer reading program and 25 participated in a game‑truck event. Fiala said the library is accredited through December 2026 and holds employee accreditations at levels 2 and 4; she also mentioned a grant collaboration with the Senior Center for Creative Arts for the aging and an upcoming tech review.
Park Committee member Nikki said a new food truck will be used for fundraising and gave an estimated installation window of Sept. 15–18, 2025; the committee is obtaining installation and removal quotes and requested assistance removing tree limbs and weeds in the park volleyball area. The Pet Committee reported work on grant applications, member recruitment, a website launch and planning for insurance related to a proposed dog park.
Maintenance Superintendent Nick Sanders reported that the Oak Creek 4‑H Club helped paint fire hydrants, that HTM inspected equipment and recommended future upgrades, and that village staff (including Jessie) are completing bathroom and park repairs at Tornado Park. Chairperson Dan Homes said the Senior Center expects meals to resume, and he will approach the Val Days Committee about seed money during rebuilding. The board also scheduled a budget planning session with the accountant in August or September.
