Council committee refers rezoning proposal for 1010 Bryce Street to planning commission and public hearing

The Newark City Council Service Committee advanced Ordinance 26-24, a proposal to rezone property at 1010 Bryce Street (Licking County tax ID 05528281000.404), from GC (General Commercial) to LI (Limited Industrial), and referred it for planning commission review and a public hearing before returning to full council for further consideration.

Director Rhodess told the committee the proposal follows the standard process: the matter will go to the planning commission, which will hold a public hearing and render a recommendation; the item will then return to council for another public hearing and a final decision. "This is exactly as you read it," Rhodess said, summarizing the administrative steps.

Council member Blind moved to advance the ordinance; Council member Neely seconded the motion. The committee conducted a voice vote; all members present indicated assent and the chair declared the motion passed. The chair noted there were no other committee meetings and reminded attendees that the full council would meet at 7:00 p.m.

The ordinance text presented to the committee identifies the parcel by address and tax ID but does not include additional project details, development proposals, or proposed uses for the LI district. The committee's action was a procedural referral to the planning commission and did not approve any development or change in land use itself. The planning commission and subsequent public hearing will be the next opportunities for members of the public and council to review project-specific details or submit testimony.
