Select Board approves $234,979.27 in warrants, hears department reports; assessor hearings scheduled for Limington

The Limington Select Board voted to approve appropriation warrant number 55 for $198,576.09 and payroll warrant 45 for $36,403.18, for a combined total of $234,979.27, at its meeting on May 7, 2026. A board member moved to approve the warrants and another seconded; the board voted in favor. During discussion the board said roughly $170,000 of the appropriation was associated with a recently delivered loader (amount described approximately during the meeting).
The meeting opened with routine approvals of the April 23 and April 30 meeting minutes. The board then heard department reports: the Public Works update noted delivery of the new loader, grading on several roads (Lower Tucker Road, Beaver Berry Road, Mill Turn Road and River Road), a pending quote to replace missing guardrails at Tucker Road Bridge, sinkhole repair on Boothby Road, and pickup of a new tractor. Staff said they had fabricated steel sides for one dump truck and performed maintenance on fleet equipment; the Public Works crew logged 226 work hours that week.
Staff reported transfer station usage of 186 visitors over a three-day period, with 161 recyclers (an 86.6% recycling rate) and $377 in income for that period. The board reiterated transfer station rules and fees, including a $20 sticker for vehicle access and guidance that brush, yard clippings and hazardous waste are not accepted; Riverside Recycling in Poland was identified for hazardous-waste disposal.
The Fire and EMS update listed 13 calls for the weekend (six fire calls and seven EMS calls), month-to-date totals (73 calls in April, one in May to date) and a year-to-date total of 243 calls; staff also described mutual-aid responses to Standish, Saco Rescue and Baldwin and ongoing training and driver recertification.
Parks and Recreation staff reviewed spring and summer programming (youth sports, open registration at lewistonrec.com, and Camp Laughing Eagle running July 6–Aug. 14) and confirmed town events for the 4th of July weekend: a parade at 10:00 a.m. on July 4 and fireworks at dusk on July 3. Staff encouraged parade float entries and volunteers.
In the town manager’s weekly update, Matt said the regional animal control agreement with Standish is working well and noted Jake Broadway is serving as the town’s animal control officer; he also said an updated animal control ordinance will be brought before the board in the near future. The manager reported that departmental spending is tracking in line with the approved fiscal 2026 budget five months into the year.
The board announced assessors’ hearings for Limington taxpayers to review valuations and appeals: May 18 (2:00–7:00), May 19 (9:00–2:00) and May 20 (2:00–7:00) at town hall. Residents were told to contact the assessors (O’Donnells) directly to schedule appointment times; staff said the dates and times would be posted to the town website and recorded in the meeting minutes.
The meeting concluded after routine notifications and a motion to adjourn. Board members thanked staff and volunteers for recent support and coverage of the meeting.
