Wymore City Council approves audit, backs grants to renovate McCandless Park and allows EMS grant application

WYMORE, Neb. — The Wymore City Council on June 18 approved the city audit, voted to pursue grant funding to renovate McCandless Park’s ballfield and gave Wymore EMS permission to apply for a Cattleman’s Ball grant to support its new building.
Mayor Collin Meints called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. and the council first approved the minutes and the treasurer’s report by motions from Councilman Max Allen, seconded by Councilwoman Sue Sapp. The council approved claims and payroll in two votes; one motion carried unanimously and a separate vote approving checks #29858, 29899, 29903 and 29924 passed with Councilman Curt Oblinger recorded as abstaining.
Councilman Max Allen described plans to improve McCandless Park’s ballfield, recommending the use of finely crushed dolomitic limestone (aggregate), leveling the outfield and installing a drain tile to address water pooling near third base. The council approved a motion to pursue grants to update the field (motion by Sue Sapp, seconded by Curt Oblinger), which passed 4-0.
The council also granted Wymore EMS permission to apply for a Cattleman’s Ball grant. Councilman Allen said the amount awarded will depend on the number of hours the EMS contributes to the event. The motion to allow the EMS to apply was made by Sue Sapp and seconded by Neil Van Boening and carried 4-0.
Members reviewed the city audit and asked that a representative from Lengemann & Associates, PC attend a future meeting to explain the document. The council voted to approve the audit (motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger), which passed 4-0.
During a brief police-department update, a department representative identified only as Mark said an application remains under review and that the department is still waiting on information from the insurance company about lockup equipment.
The meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
