River Ridge supervisor James Gilman resigns; board to solicit candidates for Seat 1

James Gilman’s resignation from Seat 1 (term through November 2026) was presented and accepted by the River Ridge Community Development District Board of Supervisors on Aug. 27, 2024.

Cleo Adams presented Mr. Gilman’s resignation letter. Board members discussed that Mr. Gilman represented The Meadows for eight years and noted a friend had been asked to submit a resume; because the vacancy is an appointment to fill an unexpired term and not an election, the board asked that Mr. Long and The Meadows’ POA manager e-blast residents to notify them of the vacancy, candidate qualification requirements and how to submit a resume or letter of interest prior to the next meeting.

The board also reviewed requirements for anyone appointed to fill the seat, including administration of the oath of office, required ethics training and disclosure filings (Sample Form 1, instructions; Form 8B memorandum of voting conflict) and a guide to the Sunshine Amendment and Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees. The matter of filling the seat was deferred for candidate submissions; the board accepted Mr. Gilman’s resignation on a motion by Kurt Blumenthal, seconded by Robert Twombly and approved unanimously.

Next step: staff will publish the vacancy notice and include candidate materials on the next meeting agenda.
