Trustees revisit 2005 feasibility study, murals and maintenance priorities for Wayland library

Trustees reviewed the 2005 feasibility study by Lerner | Ladds + Bartels that examined expansion options and site constraints for the Wayland Free Public Library and discussed how its recommendations might inform current options to improve space and access for tweens, teens and other patrons.
The board deferred a broader decision on hiring a space-planning consultant but considered potential uses of the Freight House for storage. Trustees also discussed murals for the Children’s Room — covering artists, concepts and permanence — and directed Director Christopher Lindquist to inquire with the Town about the appropriate acquisition process.
On building maintenance, trustees discussed options to postpone replacing double-hung windows in favor of improved caulking and sealing, and A. Gennis and Lindquist reported exploring lighting options for the Circulation area and North Wing to better fit the original building style. Trustees agreed Chair Gennis could attend a Select Board meeting if parking changes that implicate library lots are discussed there.
No formal votes on space planning, murals, or window replacement were recorded during the May 20 meeting.
