Cleanup nearly done after city shop fire; council approves bucket-truck downpayment and siren-pole support

Utility Superintendent Tim Sedlacek told the council that Carlson Restoration is almost finished with cleanup of the city shop fire; one trailer remains to be processed. After cleanup the shop will be closed and an ozone treatment will run for several days.
Sedlacek presented buy-back proposals for totaled vehicles and asked how much the council wished to spend on a bucket truck. The council agreed to a $1,000 downpayment with a maximum total cost of $125,000 (motion by Sue Sapp, seconded by Max Allen), vote 4-0.
Sedlacek reported the county plans to replace the weather siren in McCandless Park because the existing pole is unstable. The county requested the city provide a 50-foot Class 2 pole, labor for installation, electricity and $2,500 toward the purchase; the council approved buying the pole and providing labor and electricity (motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger). Council discussed possible alternate locations and noted the county would bring a portable unit to test proposed sites to ensure audible coverage.
Council also authorized all city staff to attend the 811 Safety Summit on Feb. 19.
