Wymore council asks advisory committee for cost analysis as police-department status is reviewed

Council Person Neil Van Boening reported that Bryan Davidson is preparing a letter modeled on the one he sent to comparable Nebraska cities to solicit information from Kansas and Nebraska police departments. Lisa Munsterman urged the council to provide more transparency and to post an updated status message about where the police department stands.
City Attorney Andy Carothers told the council the Police Department Advisory Committee must provide an analysis of the costs to keep and maintain a viable police department. Council Person Max Allen said he is working on plans to include a new police office in the same building as EMS. Clerk Janet Riensche was asked to contact other city clerks for a wage-and-benefits study of similar cities. Thomas Smith inquired about his application and background check and was directed to speak with Mark Meints, who was not present.
No formal decision establishing a new office or changing department structure was recorded; the advisory committee was tasked to return cost analysis to the council for consideration.
