Wymore council approves shop repairs and $35,000 vehicle bonus; routine claims pass

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Wymore City Council approved shop floor-drain repairs up to $10,000, authorized a $35,000 bonus to Utility Superintendent Tim Sedlacek to buy and convert a personal vehicle under Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation rules, and approved routine minutes, treasurer's report and claims (all votes 3-0).
The Wymore City Council on Feb. 19 approved several routine items and two council-authorized expenditures. Council members Max Allen, Sue Sapp and Neil Van Boening voted 3–0 to approve minutes, the treasurer’s report and Claims & Payroll including check number 29418.
Utility Superintendent Tim Sedlacek asked the council to repair busted concrete around floor drains in the shop. "Motion by Sue, seconded by Max to repair the floor drains in the shop, not to exceed $10,000.00," the minutes show; the motion carried 3–0.
Later the council considered options for a work vehicle for the utilities division. Sedlacek reported he could have a vehicle purchased and converted using Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation funds only if the vehicle were titled in his name. The council approved a compensation approach: "Motion by Max, seconded by Sue to pay Tim Sedlacek a bonus in the amount of $35,000.00 for the purchase of a vehicle to be converted with voc rehab funds through the State of Nebraska for Tim to use as his work vehicle." The motion carried 3–0.
Mayor Collin Meints and council members emphasized that auctioning a problematic vehicle does not signal closing the police department; the council did not take action to change department staffing at this meeting.
The council also discussed grant funding for the community center doors (the Morris Grant award provided $10,000 of an original $40,000 request) and authorized staff to seek additional funding through the Gage County Foundation or a new application. No additional appropriations were voted at the meeting.
