The draft letter said the speed table’s location is a poor choice for winter snow removal and that signage and warning distances are insufficient.
A board member said the board wants to include the town DPW director in any meeting with DOT regional staff to ensure municipal maintenance and snow-clearing concerns are addressed. The board voted to send the draft to the town DPW director (Steve Buckley was named in discussion) for input and, if he concurs, to forward it to DOT and request a meeting with the DOT director or regional supervisor.
Members also raised a broader point: they questioned whether DOT traffic-count methods account for seasonal summer peaks that drive much higher weekend traffic in Wells. The board said it wants DOT to consider peak summer conditions when weighing signal warrants or traffic-calming placement in the town.
