County engineer pursues SS4A grant interest for Route V64; seeks grant-writing support and updates quarry stone supply

County Engineer Ryne Thornburg reported that letters were sent to Route V64 landowners about potential right-of-way work, he has contacted Kimley Horn about preparing most of an SS4A grant application and was asked to also reach out to RC&D Pathfinders; he provided status updates on updated project estimates and a county roadstone pile at Comanche Quarry.
County Engineer Ryne Thornburg updated the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors on April 28 about a potential Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant for Route V64 and other secondary roads matters. Thornburg said letters were sent to landowners adjoining Route V64 to gauge interest in working with the county should right-of-way acquisition be required for the project.
Thornburg reported he had contacted engineering firm Kimley Horn to ask whether they would be willing to prepare the majority of the grant application but had not received a definitive response before the meeting; Supervisor Waugh suggested Thornburg also contact RC&D Pathfinders to explore additional grant-writing assistance. Thornburg said French-Reneker had been contacted for an updated project estimate.
Other operational updates included direction given to the road foreman to clear brush from a fence at Site 15 of the Indian Creek Watershed and an update about the countys roadstone pile being put up at Comanche Quarry. No grant award or right-of-way acquisition was approved at the meeting; Thornburgs next steps were to secure a grant-writing partner, refine the estimate and report back to the board.
