The Longswamp Township Parks and Recreation Commission met Oct. 15, 2024, and approved several small event purchases and a set of budget transfers in preparation for upcoming community events.
The commission opened at 8:00 p.m. with members Tyrene, Leann, Allison, Kaitey, Kristina and a Board of Supervisors representative, Mike, recorded as present. The assembly approved the Sept. 17, 2024 minutes after a motion by Leann and a second from Kristina DiGiampaolo, the commission’s secretary.
Commission members approved a request related to the Great Pumpkin Hunt held Oct. 5, 2024: laminating bingo cards at a cost not to exceed $27.25. The motion was made by Leann and seconded by Kristina DiGiampaolo. The commission also discussed t-shirt designs for SwampFest and other announcements from the Historical Society about events at the Caboose.
In new business the commission reviewed designs and financing for event flags to be used at Parks & Rec events. The commission pre-approved purchasing three seasonal flags (Easter, Pumpkin/Halloween and Christmas) at a combined cost not to exceed $300; that purchase is to be taken from the relevant event line items and added into the SwampFest budget.
The body then voted to forward a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors, for consideration at its Oct. 8, 2024 meeting, to adjust 2024 line items as follows: $300 from #451.015 (Easter Egg Hunt), $300 from #451.021 (Halloween in the Park), and $500 from #451.326 (Christmas Tree Lighting and Open). The motion to recommend those transfers was made by Leann and seconded by Kaitey; the minutes record the motion and second but do not list individual vote tallies.
Other calendar items recorded during the meeting included a December 7, 2024 Christmas Tree Lighting (no further updates recorded), an Egg Hunt set for April 4, 2025, and SwampFest scheduled for June 14, 2025. The commission listed a Volunteer Appreciation Picnic for 2025 but provided no additional details.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m. on a motion by Tyrene with Leann seconding. The minutes were submitted by Kristina DiGiampaolo, Secretary. The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2024.
