Van Buren supervisors approve salary increases for elected officials and set staff pay scales

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors approved a package of salary adjustments and a detailed staff pay schedule at its April 14 meeting, adopting Resolution #04-14-2025B under authority cited from Iowa Code Section 331.905.
The resolution sets FY2026 salaries for elected officials effective July 1, 2025. Notable changes include raising the sheriff's salary from $89,457 to $100,000 and $1,000 increases for supervisors, the auditor, treasurer, recorder and county attorney. The board also established a chair additional stipend increase and a detailed set of base salaries and hourly rates across county departments.
The board approved a uniform mileage reimbursement rate of $0.50 per mile for all county employees. The personnel action also authorized a total $2,500 Ruebel Fund bonus to be distributed to Home Health Aides and nurses as additional mileage paid for actual home-visit mileage in FY2026, to be paid semi-annually in August 2025 and February 2026.
The resolution was passed unanimously by roll call vote (Meek, Waugh, House). The board additionally approved step increases, longevity pay rules and specific hourly rates for positions in conservation, public health, sheriff's office and secondary roads as set out in the resolution.
