Residents report persistent Pinehurst drainage issues; board directs engineer to inspect

Residents at the River Ridge Community Development District meeting on July 23 said drainage problems at the Pinehurst triangle persist after a plugged pipe, and they urged the board to take further action. Resident Shari Perkins said a week after street drains were plugged "the drainage issues persist; water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area." She relayed that resident Fred Kronke reported a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 appears non-functional and was "nearly 1' above the drain," raising flooding concerns.
District Engineer John Baker explained that, before the inlet was plugged, water from one system had been backing up and flowing into a lower system; plugging the inlet removed that pushing action but left no clear place for the water to go. Baker said a solution "will likely require additional study" and emphasized the importance of photographs and video to resolve the issue. Perkins agreed to obtain video footage and provide it to CDD staff.
The board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand and tasked staff with collecting evidence and exploring options to improve flow. The Board also discussed locating the outflow at the northern end of Pinehurst Greens Drive; District Manager Chuck Adams said the pipes in question route across houses, across the golf course and into a ditch that runs down to the River Club and ultimately into the Estero River.
Next steps: staff will receive the video evidence from Perkins, the District Engineer will inspect the sites, and the Pinehurst inlet estimate (#C060-24) will remain on the agenda pending additional proposals and study.
