Van Buren County supervisors approve bond resolution, waive ordinance reading and sign multiple administrative orders

KEOSAUQUA, Iowa — The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors convened March 24, 2025 and approved a series of routine administrative actions, including a county bond resolution required by state law and several tax and payroll items.
The board unanimously passed Resolution #03-24-2025 authorizing a blanket surety bond to meet Iowa Code Chapter 64 requirements. The resolution states a bond of $20,000 per public official and employees and $100,000 for the county treasurer and her employees will be obtained and filed by the county auditor, as required by Iowa Code. Roll-call votes were recorded as Meek—Aye, Waugh—Aye, House—Aye; the resolution was passed and adopted.
The supervisors also waived and acknowledged the second reading of Van Buren County Ordinance No. 2013-2, Amendment #12 ("Mt. Sterling Sewer System Rate Ordinance") after receiving no written or oral comments; the waiver and the reading were approved by motions recorded as Ayes: 3.
On personnel and payroll matters the board approved the FY2026 county paid holiday schedule, including Independence Day (July 4, 2025), Labor Day (Sept. 1, 2025), Veterans Day (Nov. 11, 2025), Thanksgiving (Nov. 27–28, 2025), Christmas (Dec. 25, 2025), New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2026), President’s Day (Feb. 16, 2026), Good Friday (Apr. 3, 2026) and Memorial Day (May 25, 2026).
Financial approvals included acceptance of payroll (#46466–46570), handwritten claim #3320, claims #3321–3366, and Secondary Roads claims #30725–30747. The board also approved three impoundment structure property tax-exemption applications for the 2025–2026 tax year and approved six family farm credit applications while disallowing one under Iowa Code Section 425A.2(2).
A discussion about a proposed contract with Van Buren County Hospital for inmate billing was placed on hold after a hospital representative did not appear. County Sheriff Brad Hudson attended the meeting for that item; the board tabled the matter for a future date.
The board set April 1, 2025 for destruction of 2022 General Election and 2023 City/School Election materials (excluding tally books and vote abstracts) to occur in the Van Buren County Magistrate Courtroom, as authorized by Iowa Code Sections 50.13 and 50.19.
Board members reported on various committee meetings before adjourning at 10:08 a.m. The meeting minutes were attested by County Auditor Lisa Plecker and signed by Chairman Mark Meek.
