The Imlay City Board of Education on May 18 adopted bylaws for a newly formed Sex Education Advisory Board (SEAB) and appointed two co-chairs to the advisory body.
Dr. Dina Tallis presented the SEAB, explaining its role: proposed changes to sex-education curriculum will be submitted to the SEAB for review and recommendation before any recommendation is forwarded to the Board of Education. Dr. Tallis presented the SEAB bylaws and recommended two co-chairs.
Treasurer Doug Van Dyk moved to approve the SEAB bylaws and the board voted unanimously to adopt them. In a subsequent motion, the board appointed Greg Prendergast and Melanie Priehs to serve as SEAB co-chairs on the recommendation of the advisory board; that motion also passed unanimously.
The adopted bylaws set the advisory process for curriculum changes and establish the SEAB's governance and leadership. The board recorded no objections to the motions and will proceed with SEAB membership and implementation as outlined in the bylaws.
