Vanguard Academy students honored after winning national Green Power championship

Dr. Lzette Lombardia, director for 21st century learning at Vanguard Academy, introduced the students and their teachers, praised the ACE after-school STEM program that supported the project, and thanked sponsors and campus staff. Teacher Salas described hands-on learning components—building and wiring the race car, tool use, and teamwork—that contributed to the national title.
Students named Charlotte, Pablo, Victoria and Alza spoke briefly and accepted congratulations from the mayor and commissioners. The team traveled to Talladega Speedway in Alabama to compete in May, and staff noted strong parent support for the trip. Commissioners praised the students’ achievement as a model for workforce and STEM development.
The recognition was ceremonial; no policy or funding action was attached to the honor on the record.
