Dr. Jones explained the intent: to feed children during the summer by distributing sack lunches at community locations and after youth activities. He said Wendy Schaefer applied for the grant and staff have used it to purchase reusable equipment (rolling carts, coolers, cutting boards) and enrichment items for recipients. “We received $9,368 to go towards that grant,” a staff presenter reported, and at the time of the meeting the district had served 694 meals, with about half distributed through a drive‑through at Mount Kanan Church.
The grant covers staffing pay for cafeteria workers off contract this summer; the board approved paying staff $20 per hour for that work. Staff said purchased materials and banners are reusable for future summers and that the district will reapply for the grant next year.
Next steps: continue scheduled community distributions (eight remaining), document grant spending and reapply for summer nutrition funding next year.
