Board approves Chromebook lease to lock current pricing and clears obsolete district technology for disposal

The Gurdon School District board approved a technology lease to replace Chromebooks for designated grades and also authorized disposal of obsolete technology previously removed from inventory.
Staff said the lease aims to secure current prices before anticipated price increases after July 1, noting that waiting could add “another $150, $200 a Chromebook.” The board agreed to use the CDWG quote included in the packet and approved moving forward with the lease; staff said payment will not occur until after July 1.
On the disposal list, staff explained many devices (old CPUs, projectors and smartboards) are obsolete and costly to repair; recycling or removing them from inventory would not bring meaningful revenue but will clear storage and allow reuse of any salvageable parts. The board approved the disposal motion by unanimous consent.
The technology actions follow district technology cycles for selected grades and are aimed at maintaining compatible devices for ongoing testing and instruction.
