Quartzsite Chamber outlines events, visitor-center costs and small-business outreach

Shannon Johnson, vice president of the Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce, presented the chamber’s annual activities and how town support was used at the May 26 council meeting.
Johnson described community events the chamber co-sponsored — including the Christmas parade, Camelpalooza (with a pre-event educational forum and hydraulic parade), a chili cook-off co-sponsored with Tysons Wells, the Moonshot promotion (for which the chamber donated $500 for local winners), and a community appreciation event. The chamber also staffed a visitor center through a shared arrangement with Sunset Sheds and reported volunteer and paid support for visitor services; Johnson said a single paid employee (Laura) fields calls and coordinates volunteers and that the chamber’s share of rent and administrative costs was part of its $10,000 maintenance estimate.
Johnson said the chamber has engaged in local business promotion through social media, booths at regional expos, and partnership with Arizona Western Community College for workforce or trades outreach. She encouraged council to request additional materials or photos if they wished to see more of the chamber’s program details.
Council members praised the chamber’s outreach and noted Laura’s role as a local information resource. No formal council action was taken at the close of the presentation.
