Council discussion focused on whether a morning ceremony would draw participating children and families, who might prefer evening activities, and whether an earlier start could reduce heat-related risks.
One councilmember said the 10 a.m. slot was the organizers’ request and that the council need not override it; another suggested moving it earlier than 10 a.m. to avoid heat and increase attendance. The council ultimately moved to allow the requested 10 a.m. time; the clerk recorded the motion and announced the vote carried.
Staff noted the splash pad and other afternoon/evening events would still be available and encouraged organizers to promote attendance. The town will coordinate logistics with the event group and the VFW, which will hold other activities that day.
