Staff presented the commission’s recommendation and said the town received limited applications; the commission and staff recommended Cochran for his interest in community planning and the time available to serve. The agenda packet listed the recommendation under the name "Greg Cochran," but the applicant who spoke to the council identified himself as Craig Cochran. Cochran described his background in public service and prior newspaper experience and said he had attended budget meetings and was prepared to study materials and contribute recommendations.
Councilmember Nichols moved to appoint Cochran; a second was recorded and the council voted in favor. The clerk announced the motion carried.
No members of the public spoke in opposition during the available public-comment opportunity. Cochran's appointment fills a vacancy on the Planning & Zoning Commission; his term is set to expire June 1, 2029. Staff said commissions require members to review materials outside meetings and that the commission supports Cochran’s selection.
