Audubon County supervisors hire two dispatchers, rescind levy removal and set FY26 levy hearing

The Audubon County Board of Supervisors on March 4 approved two hiring resolutions for the Sheriff’s Office, rescinded a prior motion to remove the rural supplemental levy rate and scheduled a separate public hearing on the county’s proposed FY26 levy.
Chairman Heath Hansen opened the meeting at 9:01 a.m. and, after additions were made to the agenda, supervisors approved it by motion. Sheriff Todd Johnson presented two personnel resolutions: Resolution 2025-12 hiring Sydney Rodriquez as a full-time Dispatcher/Jailer and Resolution 2025-13 hiring Camryn Helvie as an as-needed Dispatcher/Jailer, both effective March 5, 2025 and subject to the union contract. Motions to approve each resolution were made by Kent Grabill and seconded by Don Mosinski; votes recorded on the resolutions list the ayes as Hansen, Grabill and Mosinski and nays as none.
Auditor Lisa Frederiksen raised questions about the FY26 budget process and noted department heads may not have realized they could request salary increases above the Compensation Board recommendation. Supervisors rescinded a motion from the previous meeting that had approved removing the FY26 rural supplemental levy rate, citing concerns about impacts on Secondary Roads. The board then voted to schedule a separate public hearing for the FY26 Proposed Levy Rate for March 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.; Auditor Frederiksen said the hearing must be a separate meeting from the regular supervisors’ session.
