Councilmember proposes six‑month citizen committee to review zoning and code

Councilmember Croucher on June 18 proposed forming a time‑limited ad hoc citizen committee to review the city’s zoning code and recommend updates to council.
Croucher said residents have raised questions about food‑truck permitting, fence rules and allowable golf‑cart use on city roads and that a residents’ committee could help the city modernize zoning language without relying solely on outside consultants. He suggested a six‑month term with committee members meeting and making recommendations that would then be forwarded to council and planning commission as required. "I think it's time that what we do is we put together a committee of citizens to look at our zoning and then advise Council of where the changes need to be made on our zoning codes," he said.
Council discussion focused on whether the committee should be an ad hoc council committee or a separate board and on which body it should report to first. Some members noted the public will not know all legal complexities of zoning and suggested expectations be set accordingly. Council requested staff draft parameters for the committee for further consideration.
