Audubon County board pushes contractor to finish courthouse HVAC as sheriff says jail remains nonfunctional

The Audubon County Board of Supervisors said contractor ETI will be on site this week to review outstanding punch-list items at the county courthouse and related HVAC work after officials reported ongoing problems, Chairman Heath Hansen said at the March 11 meeting.
Sheriff Todd Johnson told the board the county jail is still not functional and that he has not heard further from ETI or Justin Veik since a walk-through last month that identified incomplete work. The sheriff’s concerns prompted board members to reserve bond-letter and billing questions for the contractor’s upcoming visit.
Board discussion identified HVAC billings and a bond-letter received by the county as items for ETI to address in person. Clerk of Court staff also reported flickering lights in the Clerk of Court’s Office; the board noted Mid-American will issue a check to Audubon County for energy modeling related to the building.
The board did not record a formal deadline for ETI to finish the work in the minutes; supervisors instead agreed to raise outstanding items during the contractor’s site visit. The county’s next steps, per the minutes, include meeting with ETI on site and revisiting outstanding billing and bond documentation then.
