Cudahy council adopts social-hosting ordinance, updates city code and recognizes local businesses

The Cudahy Common Council adopted Ordinance No. 2431, creating a new Article IV in Chapter 28 of the municipal code concerning social hosting, and approved three additional ordinances and several resolutions at its Sept. 20 meeting.
Ald. St. Marie-Boelkow moved and Ald. Johnson seconded the motion to approve Ord. 2431; the roll call vote carried unanimously. The council also approved Ord. 2432, which deletes Sec. 2-262 related to the now-defunct Electric Board of Appeals in response to state changes in electric licensing and appeal procedure; Ord. 2433, which removes various provisions not grandfathered under 2013 Wisconsin Act 270; and Ord. 2434, which amends Sec. 6-103 to update an agency name. Each ordinance was moved and seconded as recorded and passed on unanimous roll call votes.
The council approved Resolution No. 7067 to amend the city’s 2016 adopted budget and adopted a series of recognition resolutions, including Res. 7066 honoring Lakeside Chiropractic as Business of the Year and Ress. 7068–7071 recognizing other local award recipients. Res. 7072 asks the governor and Wisconsin Legislature to close statutory loopholes that the council said are shifting property tax burdens from commercial to residential property owners. The council also approved a certified survey map at 5318 S. Packard Ave. via Res. 7073.
Appointments to city boards, commissions and committees were approved by the council, and a street closure for Oct. 8, 2016 for the Cudahy Marching Band Invitational on Somers Avenue was authorized. Motions for these items were moved and seconded as noted in the meeting minutes and carried by unanimous roll call votes.
The meeting minutes and other consent-agenda items were approved; on one minutes vote Ald. Hollenbeck recorded an abstention. No effective dates for the new ordinance or the budget amendment were specified in the minutes.
