Cudahy council keeps curbside rubbish pickup after residents urge access to city dump

Residents including Amber Sliszewski (5821 S. Illinois Ave.), Jenny Jack (3858 E. Armour Ave.), Angela DeFord (3931 E. Grange Ave.), Mike Kenzie (E. Cudahy Avenue), Ruth Flick (3747 E. Plankinton Ave.) and Jeff Jentzen (3625 E. Cudahy Avenue) spoke during the public-comment portion of the meeting requesting either restored dump access or more special pickup options. The speakers raised concerns about disposal options and the timing of spring cleanup.
Council debate focused on a proposal to discontinue the curb-side spring pickup and implement a ticket program for rubbish and yard waste. Ald. Litkowiec moved, and Ald. Hollenbeck seconded, a motion to make no changes to the current rubbish and yard-waste program. On roll call, Alderpersons Johnson, Hollenbeck, Litkowiec and St. Marie-Boelkow voted "aye"; Alderperson Moralez voted "no." The motion carried.
The decision preserves the existing pickup schedule and procedures; no changes to fees, ticketing or dump access policies were adopted at this meeting. The council did not set a deadline for revisiting the issue during this session.
