Commissioner seeks update from Water Authority after former director’s criticism of county SPLOST use

Commissioner Gwen Caldwell told the board March 24 that she had received calls from residents after an article posted on HeardCitizen.com by former Heard County Water Authority Executive Director Jimmy Knight. Caldwell read a passage she said Knight had written: "My biggest disappointment during my time with HCWA was my inability to convince the Heard County Commission of the importance of a dependable water supply (reservoir). I wish we could have obtained SPLOST funds to complete a much-needed reservoir."
Caldwell said the board had not been provided plans or designs by the Water Authority related to SPLOST projects and said she wanted the record to reflect that the board had not been informed about the Water Authority's use of SPLOST funds. County Attorney Jerry Ann Conner said she would speak with Interim Water Authority Director Charles Pearce about the board's desire for an update from the Water Authority.
The minutes record the reading of Knight's comment and the board's request for an update; they do not include a response from the Water Authority at the meeting.
