Heard County commissioners approve 2014 appointments, reappoint water authority member and seek bus barn repair estimates

At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Heard County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved routine 2014 organizational appointments, reappointed Alvin Ginn to the Heard County Water Authority, set the 2014 meeting schedule, and asked staff to obtain cost estimates to replace the roof of a county-owned former bus barn acquired from the school board.
The Heard County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 23, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the Heard County Courthouse and unanimously approved a series of routine organizational appointments and administrative items. Chairman Lee Boone read a resolution recognizing the Association County Commissioners of Georgia’s (ACCG) 100th anniversary, which the board approved.
The board voted to approve the Dec. 19, 2013 minutes and made several annual appointments for 2014. Commissioner Larry Hooks was appointed vice-chair (motion by Commissioner Sandi Allen, second by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell). Patty Jiles was appointed county clerk (motion by Commissioner Frank Crook, second by Commissioner Larry Hooks). Jerry Ann Conner was appointed county attorney (motion by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell, second by Commissioner Sandi Allen). All votes were unanimous.
The board also voted to keep commissioners meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Heard County Courthouse courtroom for 2014 (motion by Commissioner Frank Crook, second by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell).
Chairman Boone said Alvin Ginn’s appointment to the Heard County Water Authority Board expires Feb. 14, 2014, and that Mr. Ginn told Boone and Commissioner Allen he is willing to serve another term. The board unanimously voted to reappoint Ginn (motion by Commissioner Sandi Allen, second by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell).
Under old business, Chairman Boone reported the county recently closed on a former bus barn purchased from the Heard County School Board. He said public works cleared the building and removed a shed that was falling down on one side, but the roof is leaking. The board asked Boone to obtain price estimates for a new roof and return the information at the next meeting.
There were no public comments. The board voted to enter an executive session to discuss possible litigation and personnel (motion by Commissioner Jacob Cammon, second by Commissioner Sandi Allen) and later voted to return to open session (motion by Commissioner Jacob Cammon, second by Commissioner Frank Crook). With no further business, the board unanimously voted to adjourn (motion by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell, second by Commissioner Frank Crook).
