Heard County commissioners voted unanimously March 24 to award two SPLOST-funded road contracts after Public Works Director Darold Wiggins presented the bids.
Wiggins recommended accepting the low bid for surface treatment from Middle Georgia Paving, Inc. for $388,322.70 and the low bid for asphalt resurfacing from E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. for $319,637.20. The board approved the surface-treatment award on a motion by Commissioner Larry Hooks, seconded by Commissioner Keri Denney, and approved the asphalt-resurfacing award on a motion by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell, seconded by Commissioner Joe Adams.
Wiggins told the board he had spoken with Middle Georgia Paving the previous week and said Heard County would have an inspector on site during the surface-treatment work. The bids Wiggins presented included Stratton & Sons Construction, Inc. at $443,274.65 for surface treatment and C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. at $342,082.85 for asphalt resurfacing; the board accepted the lowest responsible bidders and directed that both projects be paid with SPLOST funds.
The board took no additional action on scheduling in the meeting record; staff will proceed with contracting and on-site inspection requirements approved by the commission.
