The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on June 16 approved a settlement that resolves a dispute over the proposed Hembridge Road annexation by the City of Holly Springs.
County Attorney presented the principal terms: the applicant and property owners will withdraw and amend the annexation and rezoning application with Holly Springs so two residential parcels remain in Cherokee County while the commercial parcels will continue through the city’s annexation and rezoning process. In exchange, Cherokee County will withdraw its objection filed with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs related to those parcels.
County Attorney noted additional operational items — such as coordination with Holly Springs planning staff — will be handled through normal staff‑to‑staff procedures. Commissioner Carter moved to accept the settlement and to notify Holly Springs, requesting staff to reference the county’s prior objection letter in follow‑up communications. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The board thanked Councilman Jeff Wilbur of Holly Springs for participating in a mediated resolution. The settlement concluded the county’s formal objection while leaving the county’s preference for future commercial zoning guidance to staff communications with the city.
